Q&A - Self Interview
Tell me about a crazy fishing story?
Well, last year on Lake Champlain a tornado decided to hunt me down. With 130MPH winds coming at me, I decided I had enough and drove as fast as I could and beached my boat. I grabbed my co-anlger and hid under a large machine with huge tires that pulls out boats at a marina. Three feet away from me a bolt struck a huge tree. You could feel the roots move underneath us in the ground. Check out the picture in my profile. A picture is worth a thousand words.
Anything else crazy happen.
Oh yeah, my partner Jon Stanco and I were fishing on Lake Erie. The Lake was smooth like glass all day and Jon kept begging me to fish further from the ramp. So we are about 45 miles away and a wicked violent storm came through. Bolts everywhere, wind, and angry waves. Well, I had condensation build up in my motor and lost 1,000 rpms and that scared me. Then two little screws in my hot foot came out and my throttle cable was loose. We put on the life vests and called the coast gaurd. We ended up ok but spent the next two days recovering from the beat down of the Lake.
Sounds like you have clouds following you, when that doesn't happen what kind of fishing adventure do you have?
Well, I try to have the best time possible and get a lot of people involved. The guys I fish with are always playing practical jokes on each other, something like Jackass without doing bodily harm, just some funny pranks.
Q&A - Competition
How did you get started?
My dad started me fishing and he began the first B.A.S.S. club in New England in the sixties before I was born. Without my dad I wouldn't have the passion for bass fishing.
List your competitive highlights:
B.A.S.S. Nationals on ESPN
Massachusetts State Champion
Regional Champion For B.A.S.S
7 time State Team Member
What are you planning for next season?
The Stren Northern Series and The B.A.S.S Northern Opens
What has been your biggest accomplishment?
Making the Nationals for B.A.S.S.
Q&A - Personal
What inspires you to compete?
It's a rush when your battling nature. Fishing is so peaceful and then, Boom. Everything is chaotic and crazy as you run around the boat trying to land a toad of a bass. Nothing like it.
What has been your most embarrassing moment?
Driving the brand new Triton Bass boat that B.A.S.S. gave me to compete at the Nationals on ESPN 38ft onto shore in a canal on Lake Toho. I redeemed myself by casting over the sand into the water and got my limit while I waited to be pulled out to the water. The hull grabbed an edge of a boat wake and pulled hard right, there was nothing I could do except hold on. Unbelievable, but the boat was fine.
Why do you like this sport?
I love the outdoors and teaching people how to fish. There is nothing like go fishing with friends and family to share moments of a lifetime. You always remember your days on the water.
Describe your style...
Both hardcore and finesse. One minute I will be power fising with 65lb braid and the next catching smallies in 50ft of water with 6lb flourocarbon line.
Do you train? What does your schedule look like?
I get as many days on the water I can without taking away too much from my family. They come first.
